Budgeted Salary Range: The expected pay range for this position is $59,953 to $103,650 per annum for remote positions.Budgeted Salary Range: The expected pay range for this position is $99,922 to $115,167 per annum in Stanford work locations.The Office of Research Operations has central oversight for all sponsored project funding in the School of Medicine and is seeking to hire a Research Process Manager (RPM). As an RPM, you will work with faculty on developing and obtaining grant funding for their cutting-edge research.
We offer our RPMs an extensive training and mentoring program in research administration, and have created a certification program that provides continued growth within the position. As an RPM, you earn two levels of certification, with each level bringing expanded institutional signature authority. This position is similar to the following titles in Research Administration: Grants Officer, Institutional Official, Signing Official, and Business Official. A remote work arrangement may be considered for candidates with the appropriate background and experience, depending on business needs of each unit. Remote workers’ schedules are based in the Pacific Time zone.
Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Advise and counsel faculty and department administrators regarding all sponsored projects and resolve issues relating to pre-award and post- award administration; interpret and explain award requirements, provisions, and terms to ensure compliance. Consult with RPM 2, Trainers, and Associate Directors as needed.
- Conduct review of solicitation for grant and contract proposals by government and non-government sponsors.
- Serve as the University representative liaison between the principal investigator and sponsor on all communications and inquiries regarding regulatory, administrative, and financial matters.
- Work with the principal investigator and department to provide oversight as the expert partner for the development for assigned sponsored project proposals/clinical trials.
- Conduct budget development based on understanding of University, Stanford hospitals, and sponsor requirements /policies to ensure financial viability and compliance. Consult with more experienced RPM staff as needed.
- Identify and facilitate any special reviews and approvals required for proposal submission e.g., PI waiver, IDC waiver, conflict of interest, export controls.
- Negotiate terms of grant awards and payment terms of clinical trials with sponsoring agency. Review, negotiate and accept awards with total costs up to $5 Million for a limited set of grant/clinical trials awards. Once certified, authorize the release of funding through a notice of award to department - and to Office of Sponsored Research (OSR).
- Provide oversight of post-award activities for complex federal and non-federal sponsored research projects involving multiple sub-awards, principal investigators, and/or cross-school initiatives.
- Provide guidance and support on development of proposals and budgets for grants, contracts, clinical trials, and subcontracts.
- Participate in cross functional team groups to develop timelines & objectives for complex projects. Actively participate in ongoing Lean process improvement initiatives. Other duties may also be assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to gain independence towards completing and passing Certification in which will authorize signature authority on a subset of sponsored projects.
- Knowledge of relevant governmental regulations (e.g., OMB Uniform Guidance, Cost Accounting Standards, Medicare, FDA, OHRP).
- Ability to understand and interpret university and sponsor policies.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.
- Demonstrated commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety, shown through communication of safety concerns and use and promotion of safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.
Certificates and Licenses Required
Must obtain School of Medicine Research Process Manager Certification Level I.
