Research Project Manager

Position Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Project Manager for the Center for State Health Policy (CSHP) within the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH) to advance the research portfolio of the incoming Center Director, Dr. Lindsay Shea, focused on autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Center and its parent Institute provide a rich collaborative environment for conducting cutting edge social science research.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

Managing Research Grants and Contracts

  • Oversees research activities of existing funded projects and identify and manage priorities for obtaining future funding sources and new sources of collaboration.
  • Manages submission of IRB protocols and compliance with human subjects (IRB) policies and requirements.
  • Leads community-based interventions that improve the lives of autistic individuals through the development of criminal justice diversion programs, system navigation and transitions, and other equity-focused practices.
  • Serves as a primary source of information for faculty and staff, sharing guidance on federal, state and foundation policies for proposal submissions and grant reporting.
  • Provides pre-award support for Center faculty members including administrative support for grant applications, overseeing preparation of regulatory documentation.
  • Responsible for managing operational risks, and ensuring compliance with state, federal, and university policies.

Developing and Managing Cross-System Funding Initiatives & Proposals

  • Identifies, develops, and oversees the process of applying and securing local, state, and national grant funding for cutting-edge research projects examining multi-system involvement for people with disabilities including autism.
  • Systematizes and oversees grant application development and strategy, including fostering collaboration with principal and co-investigators, generating grant application documentation and reporting, and synthesizing existing research on the grant topic to identify research gaps and future directions of grant applications as maximally innovative.
  • Leads the progression of existing funded projects by determining advantageous deadlines, generating all technical reporting documentation, and produce impactful and innovative deliverables aligned with funder priorities.
  • Continuously builds and maintains external collaborations with local, state, national, and international experts and policymakers to fortify foundational new research initiatives.
  • Consistently leads manuscript production to generate frequent publications of research findings in alignment with existing funding priorities.
  • Manages the development and progression of funded projects by setting and meeting advantageous deadlines and producing impactful deliverables.
  • Continually monitors, tracks, and synthesizes important policy topics to identify cutting-edge areas for untapped research opportunities.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field or discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general research principles and practices.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience with excellent communication and project management skills.
