Research Scholar
The Department of Computer Science (CSE) at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a Research Scholar to work with Prof. Pavel Izmailov.

The CSE department conducts ongoing research programs in a wide range of areas related to computer science theory, cyber security, analysis, visualization data, computer games, and internet & web research.
Expectations
Candidates will be responsible for research on machine learning algorithms for large language models applied to mathematics. Responsibilities include reviewing relevant literature, training and fine-tuning large language models in Python (using frameworks such as PyTorch) on GPU clusters, and developing novel algorithms or training strategies to improve mathematical reasoning. The work is expected to lead to a publication in a peer-reviewed venue.
Salary range
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $48,456 for full time, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification.
Expected start date and period of employment
Expected start date is June 1st 2026. This position is expected to be for 3 months.
Candidates should have at least a BS in computer science or a related field. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in mathematics and machine learning exemplified by relevant publications and coursework. Previous experience on AI in mathematics is desired.
