Research Specialist

We provide infrastructure and opportunities for collaboration among disciplines throughout and beyond our university to support outstanding research. We foster programs in the areas of basic, translational, mechanistic and population research.
Position Summary:
We’re conducting an education research study with >400 PhD students at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill to evaluate the impact of an educational intervention led by the Pittman Teaching Lab and UNC’s BBSP program (https://bbsp.unc.edu/). The Research Specialist will support the conduct and management of research activities, primarily focused on two class sessions examining curricula designed to strengthen leadership development skills related to social factors that shape biomedical careers. We will compare change in knowledge before and after students’ participation in our learning activities. The project will involve qualitative data analysis in the form of surveys, written self-reflections, and focus groups. This is a great opportunity to gain education research experience in preparation for a variety of careers in academia, administration, and education.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences:
Experience in the following areas is preferred:
- qualitative data analysis
- contributing to manuscript writing as a co-author
- conducting focus groups
