Research Specialist D
Job Description Summary
As a Research Specialist, conduct research experiments investigating the functioning of protein ion channels involved in cell signaling and human disease using biophysical and electrophysiological techniques.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform electrophysiology experiments using patch clamp single-channel recording and other biophysical techniques.
- Analyze electrophysiological recordings, including statistical analyses of the data using both custom-written and third-party software including IgorPro and Qub.
- Design and trouble-shoot electrophysiological and biophysical experiments.
- Maintain and expand cultures of mammalian and chicken cell lines.
- Perform routine inspection of the laboratory, maintain accurate logs, write lab reports.
- Input computer data, organize and maintain computer data records.
- Generate graphs and diagrams of publishable quality.
- Contribute to preparation of scientific manuscripts, grant proposals, and reports.
- Monitor, maintain and organize reagents and laboratory supplies inventories to ensure adequate supplies for experiments; order supplies when necessary.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master of Science Degree (in Physiology, biophysics, or related field) and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- PhD Preferred
