Position Summary: The Center for Structural Biology (CSB) provides an integrated platform of expertise, education, and infrastructure that fosters greater use of structural biology by the UNC community. This position is specifically for the Protein Expression and Purification (PEP) component of the CSB, which provides researchers here at UNC and abroad with PEP services, consulting, and mentoring. Support the Protein Expression and Purification (PEP) core by performing experiments according to outlined procedures. This will include recombinant protein expression in prokaryotic and eukaryotic overexpression systems followed by purification of target proteins and standard characterization (electrophoresis, western blot, UV spectroscopy).
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Knowledge in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or a related field or equivalent combination of training and experience comprising a basic knowledge of applicable science.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Experience with office software (eg. Word, Powerpoint). Experience with bacterial and mammalian cell culture, recombinant protein-expression, and protein-purification techniques. Experience handling and characterizing protein samples.
