Research Support Officer
- Part time (0.6FTE), Job share (Wed-Fri) fixed term until 29 January 2027
- Support the delivery of research projects and streamline grant management processes within the School of Economics
- HEO 6 Base Salary $103,185 - $111,237 pro-rata + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
The School of Economics at the University of Sydney is one of the primary centres for economics in Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region. School academic staff have varied specialisms and areas of expertise, including economic theory, policy and econometrics.
The Research Support Officer facilitates all aspects of research conducted by academic staff within the School of Economics. They will assist with the administration of research projects and streamline grant processes to ensure efficiency and compliance. Under the guidance of senior academic staff, they foster innovative research methodologies and coordinate research events and workshops that enhance the School's research excellence. They will also nurture partnerships, manage research documentation, and ensure impactful dissemination of research outcomes to maximise visibility and impact.
Please note: this is a professional role supporting researchers. You will not be conducting research.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- provide administrative and operational support to research teams and individual researchers.
- support the lifecycle of grant applications, from conceptualisation to final reporting, including budget development and initialising successful grants
- provide advice on research direction, updating the academic staff on the latest grant opportunities and compliance requirements.
- coordinate data management processes, ensuring that research publication data is captured accurately and disseminated.
- streamline administrative processes including organisation of research documentation, publications, and compliance paperwork and timely report submission
- coordinate stakeholder communications, ensuring that concerns are addressed effectively and timely while fostering a culture of trust and collaboration.
- coordinate purchasing processes and resolve any discrepancies in payment schedules
- champion a proactive approach to health and safety.
About you
- Bachelor Degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience, and experience working in the higher education sector.
- demonstrated experience working in a research-intensive environment, with experience in research software, data analysis, managing, reporting and disseminating research data.
- excellent stakeholder management skills and a highly developed customer service focus.
- experience coordinating and managing grant application processes, including budgets.
- proven ability to work autonomously and to manage conflicting deadlines.
- highly developed communication collaboration skills.
