Research Teaching Specialist I (Metabolomic Shared Resource)
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist I (Metabolomic Shared Resource) at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.
The Metabolomics Share Resource at New Brunswick was established in 2017 with a significant institutional commitment from RBHS/RWJMS. This shared resource pushes the frontiers of metabolite measurements and provides RBHS and the broader Rutgers community with easy, cost-effective access to these capabilities. The overarching objective is to enable scientific discoveries that significantly impact disease diagnosis and therapy.
In this role, Research Teaching Specialist I will assist the Metabolomic Shared Resource Director in data analysis, report writing, and user communication. The Research Teaching Specialist I is also expected to provide a significant scientific contribution to the development and optimization of the metabolomics analysis methodology.
Among the key duties for this position are the following:
- Meets with the Principal Investigator, or designee, to participate the establishment of goals and objectives for the laboratory consistent with eh budgetary, manpower, and policy framework of the department.
- Communicates with users to learn their analytical needs, interpret the results and make suggestions in experimental design.
- Under direction, and as appropriate independently, develops and implements all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and reviews schedules for laboratory assays.
- Develops and optimizes new analytical methods based on the needs of RCI members.
- Keeps track of all MSR activities on iLab, including request approval, quotation, invoicing, and billing.
- Maintains records of research productivity, such as publications and patents of RCI members who have used the resource as expected by the RCI administration and the RCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG)
Minimum Education and Experience:
PhD Degree in Physiology, Biochemistry/Metabolism, Chemistry, Medicine, Microbial Biology, or another relevant science, or a Masters' Degree science with three (3) or more years of related research experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory environment, moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
