Research Technician B
About Us
The Eliscovich lab is seeking a Research Technician B. This is a full-time research laboratory technician position in the Department of Medicine (division of Hepatology) and Department of Developmental and Molecular Biology to assist with research on liver cell biology using imaging technologies such as fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to visualize how RNA is regulated in time and space in the native context of the liver tissue.
Position Responsibilities
The research technician will:
- Perform simple or moderately complex technical procedures
- Require occasional guidance/supervision
- Occasionally be responsible for ordering supplies
- Rarely provide guidance and train other lab members
- Require a simple understanding of scientific literature, research goals and rationale
- Rarely modify technical procedures (under the supervision of the PI)
- Occasionally analyze data
- Rarely interpret data
- Rarely make written contributions to papers and grant proposals
Under general supervision, the research technician will be responsible for carrying out procedures such as:
- Assistance with mouse work
- Assistance with tissue sample processing for histological analyses
- Assistance with cell culture procedures
- Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and immunofluorescence experiments
- Maintenance of general supplies and reagents used in the laboratory including inventory and ordering of basic laboratory supplies; and tissue sample indexing and storage
- Maintenance of freezer inventories of cryopreserved tissues/cells and reagents
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related science field (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry) or equivalent skills; and 0-2 years of experience required.
Preferred:
- Prior experience in general lab procedures and handling of mice is highly desirable
- Background in RNA biology, liver cell biology and fluorescence microscopy is highly desirable
- Organizational skills, detailed oriented, record keeping and initiative is essential
