Research Technician
The Dr. Jamie Strange Bumble Bee Lab, within the Department of Entomology, is seeking a temporary research technician to assist with lab and field work for approximately 40 hours/week thru September 30, 2026.
Primary responsibilities of this position include bumble bee rearing and husbandry, as well as various lab and field tasks. Lab work will include performing dissections, conducting DNA extractions, running PCR assays, bee diet preparation, and ensuring the lab space is kept clean and organized. Fieldwork will include bumble bee collecting and vegetation surveys. Students will report directly to Dr. Jamie Strange and will be mentored by graduate students and post-docs.
This position is based in Ohio State Columbus campus at the Rothenbuhler Honey Bee Research Laboratory, with travel to field sites across Ohio, some of which may require overnight stays.
Minimum Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED. 0 years of relevant experience required.
Ability to work outside in hot and humid conditions.
Qualified candidates must be comfortable working with live bees.
Preferred Qualifications
Drivers license for travel to field sites.
Strong communication and organizational skills are highly preferred.
Exposure to processing and handling bee specimens in the field and laboratory.
