Position Highlights

The laboratory of Dr. Isabelle Schrauwen at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician II to aid in a research project focused on the genetic background of various neurological disorders. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded, enthusiastic individual with training in the broad area of biomedical sciences. The candidate should preferably have basic experience performing research in a laboratory setting, and be familiar with techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR and sequencing. In addition, the candidate is expected to aid in basic data analysis and have an interest in basic bioinformatic techniques. This individual should be detailed oriented, conscientious, able to follow instructions, and have the ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Working under the supervision of the PI assists with sample preparation and laboratory organization to ensure efficient workflow and accuracy in experimental procedures and consistent results.
  • Under the supervision of Dr. Schrauwen, sets up and performs a variety of lab tests and operations, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing, to ensure consistency and compliance with established protocols.
  • Assists Dr. Schrauwen with recording laboratory results and basic data analysis, contributes to maintaining accurate logs to support study objectives and research goals.
  • Assists with the preparation of routine summaries of experiments and qualitative reports to support lab activities and to communicate findings to the research team.
  • Collaborates with Dr. Schrauwen and the team in writing methods and results sections for technical reports, including abstracts and publications to contribute to the dissemination of research findings.
  • Assists with routine administrative tasks including record keeping, organizing, and document editing to assist with daily lab operations.
  • Routinely coordinates the ordering of standard laboratory supplies, equipment purchases and maintains inventory to ensure the smooth operation of research activities within the laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.
  • Ability to set up and perform a variety of lab or field tests and operations.
  • Detailed oriented, conscientious, and able to follow instructions.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required. Three (3) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field. Previous research experience (internship, independent study). Molecular biology experience. Experience with recording results, making observations, analyzing data, and interpreting test results.
