Position Highlights

The R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy is inviting qualified applicants to apply for the position of Research Technician III in the lab of Dr. Xinxin Ding at the department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. This position will support research conducted by senior researchers in molecular toxicology. The work conducted will mainly include detection and quantification of metabolites and biomarkers in various tissues and characterization of cellular responses to chemical exposures. The results will help with understanding how environmental chemicals cause tissue injury.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform sample processing for LC-MS/MS analysis.
  • Perform enzyme assays, to include optimizing conditions, preparing reagents, initiating reactions, monitoring reactions, calculating rate and analyzing.
  • Perform animal exposure to include: Assist with the operation of a woodsmoke or dust exposure system where mice will be exposed to smoke generated from burning pine wood or dust collected from mining sites. Duties include adding mice to exposure chambers, observe the animals during exposure through viewing window, and take them out after the exposure, and cleaning the exposure chambers. Other hazardous materials, such as synthetic dusts, may be studied also.
  • Conduct gene expression analysis, to include sample collection, cDNA Synthesis, Amplification & Detection, Sequencing, Bioinformation Analysis.
  • Conduct histopathology studies to include, tissue acquisition, fixation, embedding, sectioning, staining and reporting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with rodents required
  • Knowledge in pharmaceutical sciences

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS or higher in pharmaceutical sciences; skills with mass spectrometry.
