Position Highlights
The UA Center for Disparities in Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism (CDDOM) is seeking to hire a Laboratory Research Assistant to join our team. The laboratory research assistant will work within CDDOM's El Banco's Research Web Lab and El Banco's Sample Processing lab to assist with aliquoting samples for storage, DNA isolation, running assays, and assisting with genotyping.

Duties & Responsibilities
El Banco Wet Lab Laboratory Responsibilities:
- Extract DNA samples from whole blood samples or saliva samples.
- Convert extracted DNA from whole blood to bisulfite-converted DNA.
- Perform various ELISAs/ Assays such as insulin, c-peptides, etc. on biobank samples.
- Assist with DNA sequencing.
- Assisting with preparing and/or running El Banco related wet-lab experience.
- Maintain laboratory lab books on all lab experiments and assays/elisas, etc.
- Perform calculations and data analysis to determine significance.
- Assist with clinical trials in CATS with bio-specimen preparation and running at-point instruments such as YSI or glucometer.
- Assist with development of laboratory protocols and run center related experiments.
El Banco Sample Processing Laboratory Responsibilities:
- Process all El Banco samples based on established protocols and prepare for storage including, but not limited to:
Operating laboratory instruments such as centrifuge to spin biospecimen samples.
Pipetting biospecimen samples to transfer samples into aliquots for long term storage. - Assist with updating records in redcap/sample storage system when necessary.
- Assist with maintenance and upkeep of sample tracking and storage systems.
- Storing and/or retrieving El Banco samples in freezer and/or dewars.
- Be available for Saturdays and on-call for freezer failure.
General:
- Maintain inventory on laboratory supplies and assist with ordering supplies.
- Re-fill dewars with liquid nitrogen.
- Provide research administrative support including coordinating sample schedules, handling sample intake (sample drop offs), maintaining records and files.
- Provide recommendations on protocols and procedures.
- Perform miscellaneous lab work needed to keep the lab operational.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong organization skills and significant attention to detail for data entry and following established protocols.
- Ability to work both independently and with a team, resolving issues with a positive outcome.
- High level of integrity, ethics and professionalism and handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong communication and computer skills.

Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a wet lab, following established protocols, utilizing laboratory equipment such as: centrifuges, -80 freezers, working with liquid nitrogen, storage dewars, data entry, micro-pipettes, etc., and properly documenting work in the lab.
