Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Department of Earth, Marine and Environmental Sciences (EMES) and the Institute of Marine Sciences at UNC-CH advances understanding of the earth and ocean processes that govern our planet, shape diverse ecosystems, sustain life, and drive environmental change. We promote exploration and discovery of the natural world by engaging students in research-based learning at all levels. Position Summary: This position will have a strong expertise/knowledge base of cultivation of marine bacteria, setting up microbiological assays, constructing and confirming bacterial mutant strains, and imaging of bacterial cells and colonies using fluorescence microscopy.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Bacterial cultivation, molecular techniques (ex. PCR, cloning), microscopy experience, data analysis, science communication
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Genetics and/or genomics experience, computational skills (familiar with R, python, etc.)
