Research Technician
Job Summary
The Rees lab is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician with extensive hands-on experience maintaining essential laboratory equipment in support of biochemical and structural biology research.
Essential Job Duties
- Maintain and repair the following biochemical laboratory equipment and associated computers: Pharmacia FLPC and Akta protein purification systems, Amersham Akta Explorer protein purification system, Cytiva AktaPure protein purification system, Eppendorf/New Brunswick BioFlo/Celligen 115 Fermentor, Cary UV/Visible Spectrophotometer, SRI model 8610C Gas Chromatograph, and Maintain PC computers that support this equipment.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate field and 10 years of related research experience.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, work independently, use good judgment, and monitor completion of assigned duties.
- Ability to operate, maintain, and repair complex scientific equipment used in cell growth, protein purification, and protein characterization to prepare samples for structural biological studies.
- Knowledge of biochemical laboratory protocols and techniques relevant to instrument maintenance.
- Must be detail-oriented with the ability to work in a neat and orderly manner.
- Must be able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in relevant biochemical and structural biology skills as reflected in authorship on publications.
- Experience working with vendors and service engineers relevant to the laboratory instrumentation detailed in the essential job duties.
- Experience securing components that are no longer manufactured for the laboratory instrumentation detailed in the essential job duties.
