"Research Technician"

About the role

An opportunity has become available to join the UCL component of the Neuroblastoma UK project as a Research Technician. The appointee will provide technical support to the team and will have the opportunity to be trained in new research techniques. The appointee will be integrated into the preclinical team run by Professor John Anderson in the Zayed Centre at the Institute of Child Health focused on development of CAR-T therapeutics for paediatric cancers. There will be close working with collaboration partners. Flexibility in working hours will be required to accommodate weekend or out of hours tasks if required. Team working, aptitude and excellent record-keeping and communication skills will be essential. Responsibilities will include the analysis of samples from experimental therapeutics studies using techniques such as flow cytometry (training available) and routine maintenance of cells in culture (primary cells and cell lines). The appointee will join a team in the Zayed Centre for research in rare disease in childhood in the UCL Institute of Child Health. The appointment is for 14.6 hours per week until the 31st March 2028 in the first instance. The salary offered is £31,904 - £33,228 per annum pro rata.

The appointee will fall under the overall line management of Professor John Anderson. Main purpose summarised as follows:

• Assistance with processing and analysis of samples from experimental therapeutics trials
• Opportunity to develop or consolidate technical expertise in multi-arm animal therapeutics trials in tumour bearing mice.
• Working under line management of Prof Anderson and with day to day monitoring and supervision by members of the research laboratory team.
• Working within a team of scientists with focus on development of new therapies for childhood cancer Duties and responsibilities:
• Ensuring data integrity and excellent record keeping
• Excellent record keeping • Performing experimental assays for designated projects as directed by the PI
• Propagating cells in tissue culture including cloning, sorting, banking
• Ensuring compliance with GCLP and the HTA

About you

Team working, aptitude and excellent record-keeping and communication skills will be essential as well as a strong Bachelors degree in a relevant biological science. Responsibilities will include the analysis of samples from experimental therapeutics studies using techniques such as flow cytometry (training available), routine maintenance of cells in culture (primary cells and cell lines), and hands on work in mouse based in vivo studies of cancer models.
