Job Summary: The Department of Public Administration and Sociology at Erasmus University Rotterdam is seeking a driven researcher for GOVLAB010. This role involves collaborating with the municipality of Rotterdam to address complex challenges such as digitalization, sustainable energy, and climate change. The focus is on coupling scientific knowledge with practical challenges to provide advice and reflections.
Responsibilities: Contribute to research on policy, governance, and organization, including how municipalities can optimize policy implementation, the changing role of civil servants in AI-driven environments, contemporary principles of public administration, and optimization of structural-cultural dynamics. Conduct participatory action research combined with traditional qualitative and quantitative methods. Collect and analyze data, support organizational activities such as communication and organizing meetings, and work in multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications and Requirements: A Master's degree in preferably Public Administration, Organizational Sciences, Sociology, or Business Administration. Experience with collaborating with diverse stakeholders and integrating perspectives is preferred. Affinity with governance and organizational issues in the public domain. Strong skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods, analysis, and writing. Ability to work effectively in project teams, proactively and structured. Preferably strong in organizing and business operations. Good oral and written proficiency in Dutch.
What the Employer Offers: An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team with excellent working conditions according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). The position starts no later than January 1, 2026, with a salary between €3,546 and €5,538 gross per month for a full-time appointment (38 hours), based on experience. The role is 0.8 FTE for a 1-year contract at Campus Woudestein in Rotterdam. Benefits include 41 vacation days for a 40-hour workweek, 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, pension contributions, work-life balance options, development opportunities, and potential relocation support.
