Researcher in Electrochemistry
Researcher in Electrochemistry
Argonne National Laboratory
Organization
Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM), Argonne National Laboratory
Position Summary
The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with deep expertise in electrochemistry. The successful candidate will lead efforts in nanomaterials synthesis and in situ/operando characterization of liquid–solid interfaces during electrochemical conversions. This position offers the opportunity to leverage CNM’s advanced user facilities and instrumentation, publish in high-impact venues, and collaborate closely with scientists across CNM, Argonne, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, synthesize, and rigorously evaluate well-defined nanomaterials for catalytic and electrochemical applications
- Develop, implement, and optimize in situ electrochemical cells to probe liquid–solid interfaces under reaction conditions
- Plan and execute in situ/operando experiments using advanced characterization methods, including Near Ambient Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (NAP-XPS), electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and related techniques
- Conduct electrochemical testing and benchmarking; analyze and interpret complex datasets to elucidate mechanisms and structure–property relationships
- Document results and lead preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations; present findings at internal meetings and external conference
- Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment spanning experimentalists, theorists/modelers, and data scientists
Position Requirements
- Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in field of Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated expertise in electrochemistry, including materials synthesis, electrochemical characterization, and mechanistic interpretation
- Hands-on experience within situ/operando characterization techniques
- Strong data analysis skills: familiarity with modeling and/or data-science tools is beneficial but not required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
Application Materials
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Cover letter describing research experience and fit for the role
- Unofficial PhD transcripts
- PhD diploma (if already earned at the time of application)
Candidates selected for interview will be asked to provide three professional references.
