University of Pennsylvania Perelman
Faculty Mentors: Sudipto Dolui, PhD; John Detre, MD
Departments: Radiology and Neurology
Funding Source: Grant-funded (NIH)
Number of Positions: 1
Visa Sponsorship: Candidates requiring visa sponsorship are welcome to apply
Position Description
The Detre Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania, under the mentorship of Dr. John Detre and Dr. Sudipto Dolui, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join a multidisciplinary research team focused on brain aging and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) using advanced neuroimaging methods.
This position will support multiple NIH-funded projects aimed at improving understanding of the pathophysiology of aging and neurodegeneration and developing advanced biomarkers of vascular brain health. The lab conducts clinical and translational research using structural, functional, and physiological MRI, with a particular emphasis on cerebral blood flow imaging derived from arterial spin labeling (ASL) to assess cerebrovascular integrity and neural activity. Research involves analysis of both locally acquired datasets and large national and international neuroimaging cohorts.
Research Environment and Opportunities
The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative and innovative research environment and will have opportunities to:
- Gain hands-on experience with a wide range of neuroimaging and image analysis techniques
- Learn about the neuroscience of normal aging and dementia
- Contribute substantively to primary research publications and grant proposals
- Develop specialized expertise in:
- Cerebral blood flow imaging
- Arterial spin labeling (ASL)
- Multimodal MRI
- Data harmonization
- Quantitative neuroimaging approaches
This work will directly support the development of sensitive and specific neuroimaging biomarkers for aging and ADRD.
Desired Skills and Attributes
The ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate strong interest in biomedical research and neuroimaging
- Be enthusiastic, highly motivated, and eager to engage in team science
- Possess strong computing and data analysis skills
- Have proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Matlab, Python, or R
- Have experience in machine learning or deep learning, or show strong interest in learning and applying these approaches
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in neuroimaging, machine learning, or deep learning
- Strong scientific writing skills, with interest in leading manuscripts and contributing to grant applications
- Experience with perfusion MRI or arterial spin labeling is preferred
Salary
- Competitive, commensurate with NIH postdoctoral guidelines
Application Instructions
Applications should be submitted through Interfolio and include:
- Curriculum vitae (including names and contact information for three references)
- Brief statement describing prior research experience and current research interests
- Contact information for three (3) references
