Residential Education Leadership Coordinator (Student Services Professional II), Department of Housing and Residential Education
Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director for Residential Education, the incumbent will provide leadership for and have administrative oversight of student leadership and engagement initiatives in residential education, such as community development and student leadership development, to positively impact student learning and retention. Incumbent will be a full-time, live-on, professional who will live in a campus apartment and serve as part of the Residential Education team, will play a crucial role in the development and administration of community initiatives; crisis management; student leadership, academic success; student mentorship; and staff development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead student leader recruitment, selection, training, and ongoing development
- Chair Student Leader Training & Selection Committees; oversee onboarding and staff assignments
- Advise Residence Halls Association; establish and advise NRHH chapter
- Develop and deliver academic, cultural, recreational, and leadership programs with assessment tools
- Support RHA, Village Councils, and NRHH events; foster leadership in residential communities
- Serve in on-call rotation; respond to emergencies, resolve conflicts, and adjudicate conduct cases
- Counsel students, staff, and parents in crisis in collaboration with campus partners
- Enforce policies; advise RAs on conduct matters
- Manage programming resources, budgets, reports, and administrative processes
- Collaborate with campus departments; support housing operations and university events
- Serve on departmental/campus committees; assist with initiatives and projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Equivalent to two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior. Interpret and apply program rules and regulations. Use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and implementing long-term program improvements. Gather factual and interpretive information through interviews. Reason logically and analyze situations effectively. Collect, compile, analyze, and evaluate data, and deliver verbal or written presentations based on findings. Advise students individually and in groups on routine matters as needed. Recognize and respect diverse cultural, gender, and age-related value systems. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, public and private agencies, and others through committee work, student advising, and community engagement. Quickly acquire a general understanding of the campus's overall operations, functions, and programs. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in counseling, higher education or a related field. Experience in a college or university housing services program beyond the Resident Advisor level. Experience advising student groups or organizations. Experience with programming, crisis management, community development and/or administration. Knowledge of live-in requirements and the challenges that go with living on campus. Experience working for a housing/residence life department preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,083 per month. Classification Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 per month. The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors. The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Position Information:
Work status: Full-time/Exempt/Probationary. Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends. Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends. This position is a 'designated position' in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code.
