Location: Ashmolean Museum, Beaumont Street, Oxford, OX1 2PH

About the role

You will work as part of the Retail and Ticketing Team at the Ashmolean Museum, supporting sales and delivering a high standard of customer service. You will work across the Museum’s shops, including the main gift and book shop and the exhibition shop, as well as supporting the Welcome Desk with ticket and membership sales.

You will sell products, memberships, and tickets, contributing to sales targets through up-selling and promoting Gift Aid and donations. You will provide a friendly and professional service, ensuring a welcoming environment for all visitors.

You will follow procedures for cash handling, shop security, and daily operations, including cashing up tills. You will assist with stock replenishment, pricing, and displays, maintain high standards of presentation and cleanliness, and support stocktakes, administrative tasks, and customer enquiries, including telephone queries.

This is a permanent variable hours post and you will be happy to work flexibly, including working weekends and occasional evenings. An interest in the Cultural Sector is a bonus, but not essential. This role requires lifting and carrying boxes of stock, pushing trolleys, and moving items between shop and storage locations as part of daily retail operations.

About You

You will have experience working in a fast-paced, customer or visitor-facing environment, with good IT skills and an aptitude for using EPOS systems and handling cash. You will be confident working both independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and positive approach to achieving sales targets and supporting colleagues.

You will be well organised, reliable, and punctual, with the ability to manage your time effectively and respond flexibly to changing priorities. You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with a wide range of visitors and provide a high standard of customer service.

You will be able to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting and moving stock across different locations within the Museum. You will also be willing to work flexibly, including weekends and occasional evenings, in line with business needs.

You will have an interest in the cultural sector, museums, or galleries, which would be advantageous.
