Job Description

  • Full-time, Ongoing position at HEW Level 9.
  • Parramatta South & Hawkesbury campuses with flexible working arrangements.
  • Salary: $134,981 - $144,149 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading.

Lead a trauma-informed, person-centred approach that supports safer, more inclusive environments at Western.

The Opportunity

Western Sydney University is seeking a Safer Communities Lead to drive a whole-of-university approach to preventing and responding to gender-based violence. Reporting to the Director, Safety and Wellbeing, you will provide program leadership under the governance of the Safer Communities Steering Group, ensuring initiatives align with institutional strategy, sector standards and compliance obligations.

In this role, you will co-design and deliver multi-year roadmaps for GBV prevention and response that embed sustainable cultural change. You will design and oversee evidence-based education and capability-building programs for staff and students, ensuring trauma-informed practice is consistently applied across learning, support and reporting environments. You will also lead process design workshops to create clear, person-centred workflows for reporting, referral and case management, supported by appropriate digital tools and learning technologies.

You will supervise and mentor the Coordinator, GBV Prevention & Response, manage activities within an allocated budget. The role is hybrid, with an expectation to travel across Western’s campuses, particularly Parramatta South and Hawkesbury, to support local implementation and engagement.

What Success Looks Like:

  • A multi-year GBV prevention and response roadmap is co-designed, delivered on time, and clearly aligned with University strategy and sector standards.
  • Trauma-informed, evidence-based learning and capability-building programs are embedded for staff and students, improving confidence to prevent, identify and respond to GBV.
  • Consistent, person-centred workflows for reporting, referral and case management are implemented and understood across key stakeholder groups, supported by appropriate digital tools.
  • Compliance monitoring, governance reporting and escalation processes are in place, providing clear visibility of risks, issues and outcomes to the Safer Communities Steering Group and other forums. 
  • The Safer Communities network is strengthened through effective supervision of the Coordinator, GBV Prevention & Response and collaborative cross-functional initiatives that build capability across the University.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (for example, Public Health, Social Work, Organisational Development) with extensive experience in GBV prevention or closely related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing trauma-informed education and capability-building programs, ideally using digital learning tools and LMS integration.
  • Proven ability to facilitate process design and stakeholder engagement in complex environments, leading cross-functional initiatives and co-design workshops.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance, governance and risk management frameworks, with experience in monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement. 
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with a commitment to cultural safety, inclusion and respectful relationships in all aspects of your work.
