The Scientific Program Analyst supports the advancement of the NDCF Training Program by leading grant proposal development, fundraising initiatives, and relationship management with federal and private funding agencies. This role ensures the successful preparation, compliance, and submission of high-quality grant proposals that align with the program’s mission to expand computational training and neurodegeneration research. The analyst provides critical administrative and strategic support to program leadership, maintains organized grant tracking systems, and prepares reports on funding progress and program impact. Through collaboration with faculty, program staff, and external partners, this position plays a key role in securing resources that sustain and grow the program’s long-term success.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Grant Proposal Development:

  • Work closely with the co-directors to identify, assess, and pursue funding opportunities from federal agencies (e.g., NIH, NSF) and private foundations, ensuring the alignment of proposals with program goals.
  • Lead the writing and preparation of grant proposals, ensuring high-quality submissions that clearly communicate the NDCF Program’s impact on neurodegeneration research and computational training.
  • Collaborate with the research team and stakeholders to gather the necessary data, supporting materials, and budget details for comprehensive and persuasive grant submissions.
  • Ensure proposals are fully compliant with all funder guidelines and internal procedures.

Fundraising and Relationship Building:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key funders, including NIH, NSF, and private foundations, to foster long-term funding partnerships.
  • Represent the NDCF Program in meetings with potential funders, articulating the program's mission, goals, and impact on the field of neurodegeneration research.
  • Engage with potential funders to gain insight into their priorities and strategically position the program’s funding proposals to meet those needs.

Administrative Support for Program Manager:

  • Assist the Program Manager with administrative tasks such as organizing grant submission timelines, tracking funding opportunities, and maintaining accurate records of all grant activities.
  • Provide support in monitoring the status of submitted proposals, following up with funders, and ensuring timely progress in the grant lifecycle.
  • Assist with internal communications and prepare reports for leadership on the status of current and future funding opportunities.

Collaboration and Team Engagement:

  • Work collaboratively with the co-directors, program staff, and faculty to integrate computational and experimental aspects of the program into grant proposals.
  • Participate in internal meetings and contribute to discussions about funding strategies, grant opportunities, and program goals.
  • Help develop and manage strategic plans for future growth, including identifying new funding sources and enhancing visibility through collaborative outreach and public speaking engagements.

Grant Tracking and Reporting:

  • Maintain an organized database of funding sources, deadlines, and proposal statuses, ensuring that all records are kept up to date and accessible.
  • Prepare reports for leadership and funders, summarizing progress on grant proposals, funding outcomes, and program impact.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Exceptional Grant Writing Skills: Proficient in developing compelling and clear grant proposals for federal agencies and private foundations, particularly in the areas of scientific research and education.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Proven ability to work with senior researchers, program leaders, and funders to drive strategic initiatives, guide proposal development, and secure funding.
  • Relationship Building and Communication: Strong communication skills for engaging with funders, program leadership, and research teams to build meaningful partnerships and align funding proposals with institutional goals.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent project management abilities, including the capacity to manage multiple proposals and track deadlines effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure compliance with funder guidelines, institutional policies, and project requirements in all aspects of grant writing and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience leading grant proposals, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with institutional and federal regulations.
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships with funding agencies, collaborating effectively to align proposals with both funder priorities and institutional goals.
  • Strong understanding of the complexities of managing research projects, particularly in a scientific or academic setting.
  • Prior experience working with neurodegeneration research or computational biology is a plus.
  • A strong interest in advancing funding for research and training programs in the neuroscience and computational biology fields.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as neuroscience, biology, public health, or a related discipline. A minimum of 3 years of experience in grant writing or research administration, particularly for federal agencies (e.g., NIH, NSF) and foundations, with a demonstrated ability to successfully manage the entire lifecycle of grant proposals.
