Job Description
The Scientist Lead will provide support in executing advance genetic engineering and embryo manipulation skills to fulfill current funded projects. This is a rare and unique skill set that is needed in our laboratory to continue embryo medical techniques which lead to human medicinal options. It will also meet the needs of current funded and future grant funds that are being submitted as MU is one of the few institutions that does this type of research in the western hemisphere. The Scientist Lead will meet with the PI to discuss research needs, train and coordinate research activities in the lab, support PI in compliance with Institutional Biosafety Committee and Animal Care and Use Protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Genetic engineering in cells and embryos in the livestock and other laboratory models enabling the scientist to transfer the embryo through surgical procedures 30%
- Lead somatic cell nuclear transfer/cloning activities in the lab which support genetic modifications for animal and human research purposes 20%
- Perform surgical procedures in livestock models and assist in animal care 20%
- Support PI in compliance with Institutional Biosafety Committee and Animal Care and Use protocols 10%
- Contribute to undergraduate training and teaching in Animal Science. Training new staff and students and perform other duties as assigned 20%
Shift
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Other hours as needed
Minimum Qualifications
A Master's degree in related/ relevant area and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Additional degree and licensures as required by state/federal laws
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to perform genetic manipulation in cells and embryos from livestock species. Also provide support for Somatic cell nuclear transfer/cloning to genetic embryos. Perform surgical embryo transfer and provide support for animal care and compliance.
Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $69,097.60 - $134,950.40 annually.
Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
