The Department of History, Political Science, Geography and Africana Studies at Tennessee State University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor in Women’s or Gender History to begin Spring 2025.

Specialty within women’s or gender history is open, but a focus on legal history or another field that would complement current departmental strengths is desirable. Geographical focus is open, but preference is for a candidate who can cross geographical and/or cultural boundaries, through work on immigrant experience, migration history, U.S. borderlands history, or comparative history.

Selected candidates will teach General Education survey classes in American, African American History, and/or World History, as well as upper-division classes in their area of specialization.

The candidate must have a Ph.D. in history or a related field, or foreign equivalent, in hand by the start date.

Applications should include a CV; cover letter which includes teaching philosophy, research statement; three reference letters; unofficial graduate transcripts; and sample syllabi.

Please submit all materials by September 15. Review of applications will begin thereafter and continue until the position is filled.
