Job Description

As part of the University of Maryland School of Medicine's Heart Failure program expansion, we are actively recruiting a full-time faculty member to serve as Section Chief for our Advanced Heart Failure (AHF), Mechanical Circulatory Support and Heart Transplant (Tx) Program. Our AHF section is nationally known with an excellent track record in cutting edge mechanical circulatory support, heart transplant and advanced heart failure. The University of Maryland Division of Cardiovascular and Maryland Heart Center are home to some of the brightest minds in the world in medical and surgical management of heart failure and the heart failure program is nationally recognized with an extended patient referral base.

This position will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the AHF/Tx Section in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Medicine at University of Maryland, Baltimore. The appointee will join and lead a multidisciplinary team and demonstrate expertise in all aspects of Advanced Heart Failure, including inpatient, outpatient, and outreach services. Key responsibilities include overseeing staff, development and adherence to policies/guidelines and collaborating with physicians and other departments to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency. This leadership role often involves collaborating with various areas such as transplant surgeons, AHF/Tx physicians, APPs, nursing staff and other staff to coordinate care, resolve issues, and enhance patient satisfaction.

In addition, the candidate will be responsible for overseeing organ offer acceptance practices and call coverage, assist and enhance our vision for continued growth of our extensive clinical programs in heart failure, cardiac transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support, and will contribute to the scientific mission of the University. It is expected that incumbent, with mentorship, will develop a research portfolio with extramural funding.

Expected faculty rank for this position will be Associate Professor or higher, however, final rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with selected candidate's qualifications and experience.

The expected salary range for Associate Professors is $250,168 (min) and $500,000 (max). The referenced salary range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the departmental faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental variable compensation programs. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary from the salary range stated herein. For more information, please contact the hiring department.

The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on the University of Maryland School of Medicine's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.

UMB offers a comprehensive benefits package that prioritizes wellness, work/life balance, and professional development. This position participates in a retirement program that must be selected and is effective on your date of hire. Faculty receive a generous leave package that includes over 4 weeks of vacation accrued each year, paid holidays, personal leave, unlimited accrual of sick time, and comprehensive health insurance; professional learning and development programs; tuition remission for employees and their dependents at any University System of Maryland school. You are also invited to view the Department of Medicine benefits for full-time faculty members.

Qualifications

This position requires an MD degree from a recognized accredited university (or foreign equivalent) and all candidates must be eligible for an unrestricted Maryland medical license. The individual we seek will have fellowship training in critical care and advanced heart failure and be UNOS certified. We desire a candidate that is comfortable and interested in working in the academic environment with a strong cardiology fellowship, which is integral to our inpatient team dynamic.
