Security Officer
The Campus Safety Office at Rollins College is currently inviting service-oriented individuals to apply for two full-time Security Officer positions. As a Security Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and welcoming campus environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. - Advising, directing, and providing information to students, employees, and the public
- Patrolling the campus on foot or motor vehicle to ensure the protection of all campus faculty, staff, students, and visitors, as well as securing all campus buildings, structures, and property (Areas include buildings, grounds, parking lot, adjacent streets, and off-campus properties)
- Responding to all accidents, crimes, and complaints calls occurring on campus property
- Assisting motorists, students, employees, and visitors on campus, answering calls for assistance, escorting students and others as requested
- Noting and taking preventative/corrective action on all hazards and areas of concern
- Review and respond to emails and phone calls promptly
- Preparing and maintaining necessary campus security records and reports
- Making preliminary investigative reports and collecting initial information for Campus Safety Incident Reports
- Enforcing traffic and parking regulations
- Providing safety security services for large gatherings and events on campus
- Administering first aid as necessary and calling for emergency medical services
- Assisting in the implementation of safety/security programs for faculty, staff, and students
- Assisting in the monitoring of computerized security systems
- Coordinating and working closely with local police and fire departments
- Opening and closing facilities; monitoring and controlling access to building and restricted area
- Monitoring alarm systems and responding when necessary
- Inspecting buildings for security, fire, and other potential hazards
Minimum Qualifications & Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least two years of job-related experience is required.
- Valid Florida driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle report (MVR) are required to drive College vehicles.
- Possess and maintain CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
- Possess and maintain State of Florida Class D' security license within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to train, direct, and supervise the work of others
- Demonstrated knowledge of modern safety/police practices and procedures
- Knowledge of and abiding by all guidelines associated with the Clery Act and Title IX
- Strong service orientation with a demonstrated ability to effectively meet the needs of and work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, and public
- Ability to use tact and good judgment in resolving work problems and dealing with the public, students, and staff
- Ability to work in demanding and stressful situations
Work Schedule: The Campus Safety Office provides 24-hour response to call for service, provides routine and directed patrol activities, parking enforcement, and preliminary investigation of most campus incidents. Schedule: 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM (Tuesdays & Wednesdays off), 3rd Shift: 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM (Fridays & Saturdays off). Hours: Security Officers work approximately 40 hours per week, for a total of 2,080 hours per year.
Working Environment: Front-facing customer service role on-campus (inside and outside). Work requires exposure to potentially dangerous situations, requires physical strain involving walking and standing for extended periods of time (must be able to run short distance, walk a flight of stairs, lift up to 50 pounds), and exposure to the elements. As a condition of employment, the incumbent will be subject to call-in outside of regular hours in order to respond to emergencies. Able to work flexible hours; overtime may be required.
