"Senior Assistant Teacher"

Position Title: Senior Assistant Teacher

Reporting to the Director of the Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute, the Senior Assistant Teacher supports the lead teacher in carrying out classroom responsibilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provides a warm, nurturing classroom environment for children.
• Provides a welcoming environment for parents and families.
• Follows the procedure and schedule set forth by the staff in the classroom.
• Assists in the execution of planned activities and overall classroom management.
• Carries out the mission set forth by the Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute and Hofstra University.
• Fulfills the role of the classroom teacher in his/her absence.
• Demonstrates understanding and respect for children, their developmental needs and interests; respect for a child's family and culture; and commitment of continued professional development.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 1-2 years of related experience working with young children in a childcare setting.
• Understands and respects children and their developmental needs and interests.
• Has respect for all families and cultures.
• Holds a commitment to continued professional development.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Education component/specialization preferred.
• Experience working in a National Association for the Education of the Young Children (NAEYC) Accredited childcare center a plus.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the NAEC Accreditation Standards, NAEYC Accreditation process and Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum.
• Work experience with infants and toddlers.
