Senior Building Maintenance Worker

UC Riverside's Transportation and Parking Services is recruiting for a Senior Building Maintenance Worker. The full salary range for the Senior Building Maintenance Worker is $25.34 - $33.43 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

The Senior Building Maintenance Worker (SBMW) assists with the performance of maintenance and beautification services in and around Transportation Services facilities. Incumbent will complete maintenance work in campus parking lots, information kiosks, department buildings, and shuttle stops on and around the campus. May instruct and train unskilled assistants. Performs a wide variety of special projects including furniture and equipment moves, preparation for installation of outdoor signage, underground pipe, and equipment, routine organizing and cleaning of storage facilities. Performs repairs on equipment such as gasoline powered pressure washers, similar power equipment. Assists in selected portions of overall larger projects as related to SBMW position scope. Provides assistance to Skilled Crafts staff to move mechanical equipment, change filters, and perform other non-trades level support functions. Performs and assists with performing preventive maintenance work. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, reconditions tools and equipment used in the performance of maintenance and special projects work. Performs hands-on maintenance work on facilities and equipment at SBMW level. Performs work according to unit priorities as established by the supervisor. Provide customer service and support to all members of the campus community as related to the operations of Transportation Services including providing details on campus access and parking rules and regulations, campus events, and provide support for the operation of physical and online parking fee payment systems. Assists with responding to emergency situations to mitigate and/or resolve immediate facility maintenance concerns or safety issues. Performs all job duties in adherence with university and departmental safety guidelines. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, residents and guests.

Requirements: High School Diploma (Preferred). 2 years of experience in the performance of semi-skilled building maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Required). Experience and ability to prioritize work orders, routine work, emergency requests and ability to choose the proper materials or equipment to accomplish work in the most expeditious and safe manner (Required). Experience working with a diverse student, staff, faculty and visitor population and ability to provide exemplary customer service (Preferred). Experience and/or certification of training in forklifts and manlifts (Preferred). Demonstrated experience in diagnosing problems in vending and low voltage validation systems (Preferred). CA Driver's License (Required). Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays. Ability to work occasional scheduled and unscheduled overtime, emergency call-back, and a flexible schedule as needed (Required).

Minimum Requirements: Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Ability to record information accurately as is necessary to perform the job responsibilities. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to support trades in Auxiliary Services, unit by performing semi-skilled building maintenance tasks, including Access Control, Carpentry/Sheetmetal/Regulated Materials, Electrical, Building Mechanical/HVAC, Plumbing, Paint/Signage, Fire & Life Safety. Skill in operating shop equipment and tools common to the various skilled trade. Ability to work independently, as a part of a regular maintenance crew, or as an assistant to skilled tradesmen. Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public, and provide exceptional customer service. Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled and/or planned maintenance tasks, projects, and assignments, such as replacing filters, lamps, framing, concrete, furniture repairs, hardware repairs and maintenance. Ability to effectively communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards. Ability to perform minor routine maintenance including taking meter readings, changing out filters, lamps, and other tasks as assigned. Knowledge in safe and proper procedures when hazardous materials are suspected.

Key Responsibilities: General Maintenance: Perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the maintenance, alteration and repair of buildings and related facilities and equipment (60%). Field Equipment: Complete daily inspections and perform preventative maintenance and repairs on parking fee collection equipment (15%). Department Support: Provides operational support for Transportation & Parking Services (10%). Campus Ambassador: Assist in creating a welcoming environment and educating parking users (5%). Callbox Operations: Assist in the inspection, testing, cleaning, and repairs of the campus outdoor emergency callbox system (5%). Bicycles/Scooters: Use basic power tools to cut bicycle locks and handle impound documents (5%).
