Senior Coach - Rowing

The role

To support the Head Coach in the design, delivery, and administration of the performance sport of rowing. Assist in the development of the club, the development of its athletes, and the recruitment of athletes to the program.

To support the Head Coach in the development and performance of the Men’s Senior Squad with opportunities to work autonomously with Men’s crews and athletes.

Maintain and develop the club’s standards of behaviour and performance alongside the Head coach and Club Committee. Assist the Head coach and Committee in ensuring athletes are compliant with Clean Sport requirements and best practice.

Work collaboratively with the University’s performance team, coaching community and support staff to support the professional delivery of rowing within the University environment.

What will you be doing?

  • Plan and prioritise club activities to meet the needs of athletes, coaches, and the wider club.
  • Provide hands-on coaching support, with a particular focus on the Men’s Senior Squad and U23 Trialists.
  • Support the creation, delivery, monitoring, and adaptation of weekly and daily training plans.
  • Manage key logistics, including competition transport and equipment coordination.
  • Contribute to athlete recruitment across high-performance and development groups.
  • Maintain clear communication between captains, students, coaches, and the Head Coach.
  • Track session delivery, performance outcomes, feedback, and relevant documentation.
  • Individualise training plans in consultation with the Head Coach where required.
  • Deliver educational presentations to athletes and coaches when appropriate.
  • Attend weekly Performance Team meetings at Coombe Dingle.

You should apply if

You have:

  • Experience in sporting environments, including university, junior, club, and performance rowing settings.
  • Strong coaching background, with success developing athletes at top club, Junior, U23, or Senior International level.
  • Excellent administrative, organisational, planning, reporting, and presentation skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks, workloads, deadlines, and changing priorities calmly and effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students, staff, and the wider community.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong understanding of rowing-specific health and safety requirements.
  • Holds, or is willing to work towards, UKCC Level 2 or equivalent coaching qualification and RYA Powerboat Level 2.
  • Full driving licence, with trailer towing required or willingness to complete training.

Additional information

Contract type: Open ended with funding fixed until 31/08/2029

Work pattern: Full time - 35 hours

Hybrid working is available when not required for coaching sessions or face-to-face meetings. Schedule for hybrid working is flexible each week in agreement with line manager.
