About the Role
Curtin University is seeking an experienced Senior Identity Engineer to join our Digital Identity team within Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS). In this senior technical role, you will play a critical part in designing, securing, and optimising identity platforms that support a large and diverse university community.
You will provide technical leadership across enterprise identity platforms, ensuring reliable, secure and scalable identity services across both on-premises and cloud environments. The role requires someone with strong experience managing large hybrid identity environments, integrating modern cloud identity capabilities with established enterprise infrastructure.
This role also offers the opportunity to contribute to major identity initiatives across the University, including projects focused on identity governance, access lifecycle management, privileged access security and the ongoing improvement of Curtin’s enterprise identity platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, management and optimisation of Curtin’s digital identity platforms
- Support and enhance Microsoft Entra ID and Active Directory environments at enterprise scale
- Drive improvements to hybrid identity synchronisation and directory integration services (Microsoft Entra Connect Sync)
- Provide expert advice on identity and access management (IAM) to projects and IT teams across the University
- Monitor and troubleshoot identity systems, resolving incidents and ensuring service reliability
- Contribute to the design and implementation of secure authentication, authorisation and federation services
- Mentor team members and provide technical leadership within the Digital Identity team
- Develop and maintain documentation, standards and best practices for identity technologies
- Collaborate across IT teams, vendors and stakeholders to deliver secure and innovative identity solutions
Selection Criteria:
We are looking for someone with strong enterprise identity experience and a passion for secure digital platforms.
You will bring:
- Extensive experience managing large-scale Microsoft Entra ID and Active Directory environments
- Experience with IAM lifecycle management and identity governance processes across enterprise environments
- Strong knowledge of identity security controls including PIM, PAM, JIT access, JEA and identity protection
- Experience with federation technologies including SAML, OAuth and OpenID Connect
- Strong understanding of authentication and directory protocols including Kerberos, NTLM, LDAP and LDAPS
- Experience with PowerShell automation and Microsoft Graph API
- Experience supporting identity platforms in large enterprise production environments at scale
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead complex technical initiatives
- Demonstrated experience working within large hybrid identity environments spanning on-premises infrastructure and cloud platforms such as Microsoft Entra ID and AWS environments
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams
Desirable
- Experience with identity platforms such as Ping Identity, SailPoint or CyberArk
- Relevant certifications in identity or cloud technologies
Role Requirements:
As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role

Your new Team – Digital Identity
The Digital Identity team is responsible for the design, operation and security of Curtin’s enterprise identity platforms supporting over 100K identities across staff, students and service accounts. The environment spans hybrid identity services across Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID and federation platforms such as Ping Identity, as well as cloud environments including AWS. The team supports federation and single sign-on integrations, identity lifecycle processes and identity security controls across the University’s enterprise applications and digital services.

This 12-month fixed-term role with potential for extension offers a salary package of $119,125 – $126,950 (G08) per annum, plus 17% superannuation.
This position supports hybrid working arrangements, with the flexibility to work up to two days per week from home, while remaining connected to a collaborative team environment on Curtin’s Bentley campus.
