About This Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a visionary and collaborative Senior Lecturer in Finance to join UQ Business School, contributing to a high‑performing academic community renowned for its global outlook and real‑world impact. You will play a key role in shaping contemporary finance education, advancing impactful research, and mentoring the next generation of finance professionals and researchers within an ambitious, inclusive and collegial environment. Ideally candidates will possess relevant industry experience in finance/investment banking in addition to their academic experience. Preference is given to candidates whose research interests align broadly with venture capital or entrepreneurial finance.
Key responsibilities will include:
Teaching
- Deliver high‑quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate Finance programs, including course coordination, assessment and student support.
- Contribute original insights that advance knowledge and practice in Finance.
- Lead or contribute to curriculum and program development to ensure learning experiences are engaging, contemporary and industry‑relevant.
- Design and deliver innovative learning approaches across face‑to‑face, online and blended settings.
- Build and maintain industry relationships to enhance curriculum relevance, student employability and professional pathways.
- Support student success through effective mentoring, academic guidance and adherence to University teaching and learning requirements.
Research
- Maintain an active program of high‑quality research with outputs in reputable refereed journals and conferences.
- Seek, obtain and manage competitive research funding, including as a Chief Investigator where appropriate.
- Undertake independent and collaborative research that delivers academic, policy, industry and commercial impact.
- Contribute to the translation of research outcomes, including knowledge transfer and commercialisation opportunities.
- Foster strategic research collaborations across the University and with national and international partners, applying best‑practice research methodologies.
Supervision and Researcher Development
- Act as Principal Supervisor for Higher Degree by Research students and support their academic and professional development.
- Demonstrate and promote responsible conduct of research and effective supervision practices.
- Lead and support the development of researchers and staff through mentoring, feedback and professional development.
- Manage staff performance and conduct in line with University policies, addressing issues proactively and constructively.
Citizenship and Service
- Demonstrate behaviours aligned with UQ values and contribute to a respectful, inclusive academic culture.
- Provide leadership through collaboration, mentoring and support for staff wellbeing.
- Contribute actively to internal service roles, governance and committee work.
- Build and sustain external partnerships with industry, government, professional bodies and the wider community.

About You
You will bring a strong academic profile and a commitment to excellence in teaching, research and service.
You will demonstrate:
- Completion of a PhD in Finance or a closely related discipline.
- An established and growing profile in teaching and research within Finance.
- Evidence of high‑quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including curriculum design and course coordination.
- A developing national and international research reputation, supported by publications in reputable refereed journals.
- Experience, or strong capability, in supervising Higher Degree by Research students.
- A collegial and collaborative approach, with the ability to contribute positively to academic leadership and service.
- An interest in engaging with industry to enhance research relevance, student employability and external impact.
- An understanding of investment banking practices in Australia.
- Preferably research interests in areas that align with venture capital or entrepreneurial finance.
