About the role

We are seeking a teaching focused academic to lead the academic coordination of clinical rotations for Phase 2 of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program, the first year of immersive clinical placements for medical students. You’ll work closely with Grafton Base Hospital senior leadership, University of Wollongong students, Phase 2 Chairs, clinical discipline leads, Co Subject Coordinators, and hospital and academic staff to coordinate teaching, learning, and assessment activities within the hospital setting.

Alongside coordination responsibilities, the role offers opportunities for broader academic engagement, including discipline specific teaching, curriculum review and development, contribution to assessment processes, and evaluation activities. Drawing on your clinical and education networks, you’ll help expand medical student teaching opportunities within Grafton Base Hospital and across the Graduate School of Medicine’s rural and regional partner network.

You’ll also collaborate with University Centre for Rural Health (UCRH) colleagues to support the delivery of the North Coast Medical Education Collaboration (NCMEC).

About you

You are a registered clinical specialist at Grafton Base Hospital and a qualified medical graduate eligible for unrestricted specialist registration in NSW. You have experience teaching medical students at different stages and contributing to curriculum and assessment activities.

The role requires the capacity to undertake leadership and administrative responsibilities in both clinical and academic settings, as well as a demonstrated commitment to professional practice and continuing professional development. Strong collaboration and mentoring skills are expected, along with the ability to communicate effectively with staff and students across distributed teams.

Special job requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to reside rurally in an a Modified Monash Model: (MM2+) region https://www.health.gov.au/topics/rural-health-workforce/classifications/mmm and hold a current registered clinical specialist appointment at Grafton Base hospital, with unrestricted registration as a medical practitioner in NSW.
  • As this position requires attendance at Public Health Facilities, the position holder must comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases (PG1) Policy Directive (PD2024_015) https://www1.health.nsw.gov.au/pds/Pages/doc.aspx?dn=PD2024_015
