Shape the future of Acute Care medical education in WA
Curtin Medical School is seeking an experienced and passionate clinician-educator to take on a key leadership role as Senior Lecturer and Specialty Lead (Acute Care) within our undergraduate MBBS program.
This is a unique opportunity to shape how Acute Care is taught across all five years of Western Australia’s only undergraduate medical degree, ensuring graduates are well prepared to meet contemporary clinical, professional, and community needs.
Your new role
As the Clinical Specialist Lead, you will provide strategic leadership for your specialty, ensuring its high-quality representation across the MBBS curriculum. Working closely with Domain Leads and Year Coordinators, you will play a central role in curriculum review, development, assessment, and delivery.
The role also involves identifying and overseeing adjunct academics who contribute to teaching, and providing leadership for “Back to Campus” programs in Years 4 and 5 focused on acute care topics. You will contribute to the development and oversight of written and OSCE assessments aligned with Acute Care learning outcomes.
This flexible, part-time opportunity suits a senior clinician with a strong interest in medical education who enjoys collaboration, leadership, and making a lasting impact on student learning.
In this role, you will:
Teaching & Curriculum Development
- Lead comprehensive reviews of curriculum outcomes to ensure alignment with Australian Medical Council Graduate Outcomes relevant to your specialty.
- Develop and implement curriculum enhancements that integrate Acute Care meaningfully across all years of the MBBS.
- Approve specialty-specific curriculum content in collaboration with Domain Leads and Year Coordinators.
- Contribute to the design, delivery, and review of assessment activities, including written and OSCE assessments relevant to Acute Care.
- Deliver face-to-face and online teaching, and identify, recruit, and oversee adjunct and additional clinical educators as required.
- Provide oversight of Year 4 and 5 Back to Campus programs related to Acute Care.
- Monitor the impact of curriculum changes on student learning and performance, adjusting as needed to maintain excellence.
- Participate in relevant Medical School committees related to clinical education.
- Where appropriate, engage in scholarly and evidence-based educational research.
- Act as the first point of contact for academic queries related to your specialty.
Engagement & Representation
- Serve as Curtin Medical School’s representative for your clinical discipline, responding to stakeholder and external body enquiries across all clinical teaching sites.
About you
You are a respected clinician with a passion for medical education and leadership. You bring credibility, collaboration, and a strong commitment to equity and community-focused healthcare.
Essential criteria:
- Medical degree with current unrestricted AHPRA registration
- A Fellowship or Post graduate qualification in a relevant discipline (or equivalent accreditation and professional standing for a Teaching Focused Clinical Professional role).
- Extensive clinical experience in Acute Care.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, supervising and mentoring medical students and junior doctors
- Strong leadership capability, with experience in curriculum development or educational initiatives
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and ethical professional practice
Desirable criteria:
- Experience in curriculum quality improvement, assessment design, or accreditation processes
- Evidence of research in the field, with publications, presentations, or project involvement
- Interest in integrating research and evidence-based practice into teaching and curriculum design
Role Requirements
As this is a continuing contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction
