Senior Research Fellow/Oncology Portfolio Lead

Are you an experienced clinical trials professional with a passion for cancer research who enjoys working collaboratively to lead high-impact studies? A position has arisen for a Senior Lecturer/Senior Study Manager for Oncology based in the Sheffield Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU).

About the Role

This role has been created following a prestigious multi-million-pound infrastructure grant.

Your work will have a direct impact on patient outcomes. You will support the Academic Lead for Oncology Trials in building a sustainable pipeline of high-quality studies, ensuring that ambitious clinical ideas are translated into life-changing treatments. From overseeing complex oncology CTIMPs and navigating MHRA inspections to mentoring the next generation of trial managers and clinical fellows, you will lead a portfolio that prioritises innovation and equity.

Who You Are

We are looking for a specialist with a proven track record in project managing large, multi-centre clinical trials within an oncology setting. You will be a strategic collaborator who can bridge the gap between clinical investigators and methodological excellence.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a post-graduate degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant health-related area.
  • Possess deep expertise in Oncology CTIMPs, including a sound understanding of cancer-specific pharmacovigilance and UK regulatory frameworks.
  • Be a skilled communicator capable of winning major research grants and building strong relationships with Chief Investigators and patient panels.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity, using frameworks like INCLUDE to ensure trials reach underserved and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations.
  • Be an inspiring mentor, ready to supervise and develop a growing team of trial staff.

About the Department

The Sheffield CTRU is a vibrant, multidisciplinary unit within the School of Medicine and Population Health. We are a UKCRC-registered unit with a reputation for excellence in the design and delivery of complex, randomised controlled trials. This is a unique opportunity to join a team that is expanding its horizons into specialist cancer research, backed by significant long-term funding. You will work in a supportive environment that values methodological innovation and professional development.
