Senior Maintenance Mechanic I (Locksmith)
Under general supervision, the Senior Maintenance Mechanic I (Locksmith) performs a wide variety of journeyman level locksmith maintenance, repair and installation, including the layout of jobs sufficiently complex to require advance planning.
The incumbent:
- Installs, maintains, and repairs locks, keys, and electronic access systems across campus;
- Repairs, installs and retrofits locks for interior and exterior building doors, for cabinets, desks, lockers, machines, etc.;
- Repairs, installs and retrofits door checks, door travel restrictors, door coordinators, related door hardware, panic exist devices, self-contained exit door alarms and locks, etc.;
- Fabricates hand tools and parts for lock mechanisms from a variety of materials when commercial items are not available;
- Catalogs, indexes and prepares simple key control cabinets for the use of others; Duplicates keys for a wide variety of locks;
- Code cuts and hand files first keys and cuts keys to original factory specifications;
- Keys and re-keys a variety of locks to one to five levels of keying, to close tolerance;
- Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition;
- Maintains record of jobs completed, materials used and make reports, as required;
- Performs routine and emergency repairs and maintenance, both scheduled and in response to emergency situations, as required;
- Depending on work location, may operate equipment and devices, participate in snow removal, etc., as assigned;
- Maintains campus access-control database, key and lock records, & inventory and prepares requisitions as needed;
- Troubleshoots and repairs security equipment, including alarms, cameras, and low-voltage electrical wiring; installs and configures and access control technologies;
- Configures, maintains and updates electronic security access control, video surveillance and other security- related computer systems;
- Works with campus security, facilities, and other departments on security needs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess either:
(a) High School or equivalency diploma and four years of experience in the trade; or
(b) Six years of work experience, four of which must have been in the trade;
NOTE: Graduation from an established locksmith correspondence course may be substituted for two years of experience in the trade.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and evidence of equity-minded practice in all college policies, practices, and personnel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: It is preferred that the successful candidate possess:
- Five years in the locksmith trade
- At least one year of experience in electronic access control
- Experience using computers and computerized work order system
- At least one year of experience working for a large organization in facility management
- A locksmith certification or license and/or a membership with a recognized professional locksmith organization such as Associated Locksmiths of America/ALOA Security Professionals Association
