LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive university

This is a two-year appointment, with extension subject to further funding.

The Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx) is a research centre at the LSE focused on enabling the global shift to low‑carbon, resilient economies by delivering independent research, targeted policy guidance, high‑level convenings, and technical capacity‑building to drive effective climate and nature action in G20 economies.

CETEx is seeking an experienced Senior Policy Fellow to oversee programmes and projects on the role of economic and fiscal authorities (e.g., finance, economic, climate and environment ministries) within the European Union (EU) in supporting the climate transition and managing the associated fiscal and economic impacts. The post-holder will employ their reputation for rigorous, user-focused analysis and policy-orientated work and related activities and engagement, also at a senior level, to ensure that research outputs have demonstrable impact and inform the public debate.

The Senior Policy Fellow will help shape the research agenda for a growing team, conduct rigorous research and policy analysis and help lead a team to develop policy proposals that inform the decisions of economic and fiscal policymakers in advanced economies, with a particular focus on the European context. They will build and maintain relationships particularly among an extensive network of European climate policy contacts in the public, private, and third sectors, and they will train and supervise the work of more junior colleagues, such as mentoring and appraising junior research staff and policy fellows.

Candidates will hold a master’s degree or PhD in environmental economics/policy, sustainable finance, economics, finance, management, law or a closely related field. Candidates should also have expert knowledge of the field of fiscal policy and related climate and environmental policy questions (e.g. in tax, subsidy, budget and spending decisions), and Demonstrable experience of directly engaging with or working for economic and fiscal policymakers in European Union member states or other advanced economies, including at a senior level, on issues relating to taxation, debt, budgeting, or other core fiscal issues.

Candidates will also have an extensive publication track record of policy and research publications, or extensive professional experience developing policies and implementation guidance, on the role of economic and fiscal authorities in the context of environmental risks and the economic transition. Candidates will also have experience of training and supervising the work of more junior colleagues, as well as evidence of extensive network of European climate policy contacts in the public, private, and third sectors.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
