Senior Program Coordinator
Position Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Senior Program Coordinator. This position is located at the Newark campus and reports to the Director of Transitions. The Senior Program Coordinator will assist in all aspects of administering the assigned campus' Mountainview Community (consisting of formerly incarcerated college students).
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Manages all administrative tasks and program communications, as well as supervision of students workers and tracking all program data and generates reports.
- Works collaboratively with a multitude of university offices to expand services, program outcomes and better assist program participants.
- Facilitates recruiting efforts and has sole determination whether a student is qualified to join the Mountainview community.
- Responsible to liaise with other campus units including Enrollment Services such as Admissions, Financial Aid, etc.
- Responsible to accept and verify referrals, manage potential student inquiries and liaise with colleagues within NJ STEP and assigned campus, as well as, partner programs at Community Colleges.
- Plans, directly provides, or procures all support services for students such as course specific tutoring, academic advising and course selection support, drug and alcohol or personal counseling, academic coaching/study skills, campus employment, choosing a major/career, interviewing and job search skills, preparing personal statements and resumes, and managing aspects of reentry.
- Pre-semester registration checks; maintains up to date contact lists of all students; tracking of student progress, grades and accomplishments.
- Keeps program staff, volunteers and university administrators abreast of program developments and accomplishments.
- Coordinates and runs bi-annual Mountainview student meetings.
- Coordinates annual graduation ceremony; and maintains all program files and records.
- Exercises discretion in developing academic and non-academic success plans for program participants.
Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of program design and execution, coordination, organization, facilitation, report analysis, writing, and promotion/outreach. Also requires a minimum of two years relevant experience in a program coordination or administrative function that includes coordination of work and management of people; good communication skills; and computer literacy.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must work some nights and weekends.
