Senior Research Lab Manager - College of Optometry, Vision Science

Supervises and coordinates the activities of personnel engaged in research and experimental testing. Maintains lab operations. May investigate complaints regarding lab services, equipment, and/or capabilities. Possesses, understands, and applies a comprehensive knowledge in area of specialization. Understands and uses effective management techniques.
- Manages the budgets and operations of two or more research laboratories.
- Assigns, checks, and monitors assignments of lab personnel.
- Oversees and participates in the creation of annual budgets. Identifies funding sources and applies for grants, as appropriate.
- Estimates personnel needs to obtain lab and research objectives.
- Conducts personnel evaluations, recommends hiring and terminations, and performs other management function.
- Operates with considerable latitude for unreviewed action. Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of personnel.
The duties and responsibilities of this position include:
- ordering/purchasing, receiving packages, managing inventory and budgets,
- overseeing regulatory compliance (e.g., animal protocols, standard procedures),
- maintaining records and equipment,
- ensuring laboratory organization/cleanliness,
- direct animal interaction (animal care, surgical assistance, behavioral training, and assisting with experiments), and
- supervision and coordination of lab personnel (e.g., onboarding, safety training).
Qualifications: Previous lab management and staff training experience is required. The ideal candidate will also have previous experience working with marmosets, including behavioral training, handling, restraining, surgical procedures, anesthetic and analgesic procedures, and pre- and post-surgical care. Experience will be considered in lieu of education.
Preferred qualifications include a degree in Laboratory Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Neuroscience, or a related field.
MQ: Bachelor's Degree with 7 years experience.
