Offer Description
Vetmeduni is seeking a dedicated Senior Scientist who will help us build up excellent technical expertise in the field of metabolomics. The role is intended to support our Veterinary Metabolomics Unit for the first two years, with the aim of subsequently moving to the VetCore Facility. This will also involve establishing user support within the VetCore Facility.
Responsibilities and tasks
- Setting up and validating methods on mass spectrometry instrumentation including instituting quality control system suitability tests and regimes
- Organization, support, and execution of Core Facility users’ projects in the field of metabolomics/small molecules (project planning, sample preparation, analysis using (U)HPLC and mass spectrometry (LC-MS), method validation, preparation and communication of results).
- Following the Metabolomics Unit quality management strategies to ensure all projects are analysed to international quality standards
- Ensuring all project results are stored in the Metabolomics data library to FAIR standards
- Preparation of training materials and training of colleagues in sample preparation and LC-MS analyses
- Maintenance of LC-MS system operations in the VetCore Facility (data backup and storage, maintenance, cleaning, calibration, quality control)
- Establishment of new workflows for sample preparation, LC-MS analysis, and data evaluation
- General administrative tasks in the VetCore Facility (including procurement/purchasing, equipment management, and project management)

Requirements

Education Level: PhD or equivalent
Specific Requirements
- Completed degree in a natural science discipline and a doctorate/PhD in a relevant field (analytical chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or similar strong chemistry background)
- Knowledge and practical experience of sample preparation and extraction of metabolites from biological materials
- Practical experience in the analysis of metabolites/small molecules using LC-MS
- Experience in the analysis and interpretation of metabolomics data, including statistical and bioinformatic evaluation
- Good English language skills (B2)
- Demonstrable experience in complex project management
- Demonstrable experience in validation and method development in LC-MS
- Demonstrated professional experience in a research group or Core Facility specialising in metabolomics chemical analysis
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Organizational talent and ability to work independently, with accuracy and analytical thinking
- Commitment, high level of self-motivation, and quick comprehension skills
- Experience in organizing the operations of a core facility
