VTTI seeks a qualified, ambitious, seasoned software engineer who is interested in answering complex questions surrounding connected and automated vehicle systems and desires flexible, part-time work assignments. The candidate should be an experienced engineer capable of working independently and with multidisciplinary teams to improve transportation safety through cutting-edge research and development of emerging technologies in transportation safety applications. This role will focus on working to develop and enhance complex software to support transportation research projects. This entails undertaking and leading the design, coding, unit testing, and integration testing activities to ensure that each assignment is completed on time and meets the expectations of the user. Iteratively acts in concert with the research team and sponsors to define project goals and technical specifications; to create/refine project plans and milestones; and to integrate these goals, specifications, and timeline to achieve the overall objective.

Directions given and received: Independently performs most assignments with instructions on global objectives and general results expected with minimal supervision. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment. May work with technicians, graduate research assistants and others who assist in specific assignments, providing expertise and guidance as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in engineering or a related field, or substantial equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining complex software systems.
• Experience with research computing workflows.
• Experience developing systems that operate on large-scale datasets.
• Experience building computer vision-based applications.
• Experience with transportation-related computer vision applications.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD.
• Must have a strong work ethic and be able to work independently with little supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Kubernetes.
• Experience with API development.
