Summary of Position

RRCC is seeking an innovative and highly collaborative Senior Work-Based Learning Coordinator who will lead the development, coordination, and expansion of work-based and experiential learning opportunities for students across all degree and CTE certificate programs. This position plays a critical role in connecting classroom learning to real-world experience through internships, job shadowing, informational interviews, and other experiential learning models that support student career exploration, retention, completion, and gainful employment. The Senior Work-Based Learning Coordinator takes the lead in building and sustaining a comprehensive RRCC Internship Program aligned with the vision and priorities of the Career Success Center, ensuring opportunities are responsive to industry needs, student demand, and faculty learning objectives. The role also partners in supporting apprenticeship pathway development through collaborative engagement with industry and workforce partners.

This role manages the full lifecycle of internship and experiential learning programs, including employer and student engagement, internship agreements, tracking and evaluation, and continuous program improvement. The position works closely with employers, workforce partners, faculty, academic advisors, alumni, and apprenticeship stakeholders to develop meaningful learning opportunities and to promote the value of work-based learning to students. The Senior Work-Based Learning Coordinator provides direct advising and coaching to students, supports professional development and career exploration, and leads workshops, panels, classroom presentations, and events that elevate experiential learning opportunities. In collaboration with the CTE Apprenticeship Coordinator, this position supports the development and expansion of Registered Apprenticeship Programs and related employer partnerships, operating under the strategic direction and priorities established by the Director of the Career Success Center.

A successful candidate demonstrates strong work-based learning and career development experience and is at ease with:

  • Student Advising, Coaching, and Career Exploration: Guiding students through career conversations, professional development coaching, and experiential learning pathways that support skill development, confidence, and career readiness.
  • Program Development, Coordination, and Data Management: Designing, managing, and evaluating internship and experiential learning programs through strong organization, data tracking, continuous improvement, and effective use of tools such as Handshake and LinkedIn.
  • Building Employer and Faculty Partnerships: Developing and sustaining relationships with employers, workforce partners, faculty, and advisors to create high-quality, meaningful work-based learning opportunities aligned with academic and workforce goals.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of work-based and experiential learning in higher education.
  • Proficiency with career exploration resources (ONet, Dept. of Labor Statistics, My Colorado Career Journey, etc.).
  • Proficiency with LinkedIn profile creation and job search-company-alumni search tools for career and industry networking.
  • Proficiency with MS Office & Teams.
  • Effective communication skills including the ability to present information to groups and in public settings and to give and receive conceptual or emotionally charged information.
  • Ability to create and keep deadlines, manage appointments, pay attention to details, keep work organized, and plan, prioritize and achieve goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and experience with confidentiality.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree OR equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
  • Two years of higher education experience working in a career, internship, apprenticeship, academic advising setting, or equivalent combination of experience in a private industry or public sector role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with employers and students in the creation, development, and management of work-based learning pathways, such as internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, and informational interviews.
  • Experience with project management and data analysis.
  • Experience with career management systems (e.g. Handshake), student information systems (e.g. Banner), and career assessments (MBTI, YouScience, Strong, etc.)
  • Experience working with students at a community college.
  • Bilingual English & Spanish
  • Awareness of the strategic initiatives associated with student retention, completion, and experiential learning.

Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment at the Lakewood Campus during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening or extended hours as needed. Responsibilities may require work from any campus location and travel to and from campuses. Limited remote work (one day) may be permitted in alignment with operational needs and divisional leadership approval.

Starting Salary
Starting salary range for this position is $59,524 to $65,476 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
