"SHRA Temporary Facilities Engineer"

The University of North Carolina Wilmington is dedicated to integrating teaching, mentoring, research, and service. This position is for a Temporary Facilities Engineer in the Planning and Design department.

Brief Summary: The role involves assisting in supporting, implementing, and managing a comprehensive campus-wide energy and infrastructure management plan. This includes providing knowledge of best practices in engineering and energy management for existing and new facilities, such as new buildings, infrastructure improvements, major and minor renovations, and whole building modernizations. The position will perform engineering skills to implement design decisions and facilitate energy-saving projects, working with university departments, state, and federal entities. This is a mandatory personnel position, potentially requiring work during adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: A Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience: Professional licensure or certifications from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors are preferred. Experience in design and operational strategies for reducing energy consumption, and in developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive energy management plan. Knowledge of construction principles, practices, functional design, materials, estimating, construction techniques, trade practices, and governing codes. Ability to review designs, read plans and specifications, estimate costs, communicate technical subjects effectively, and make presentations to various audiences.

Required Certifications or Licensure: Valid NC Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days.

Work hours: 8-5, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. Anticipated hiring range: $36 per hour. This is a temporary position with possible continuation, not exceeding 11 consecutive months without a break.
