Skilled Trades Worker
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the manager/supervisor in the Operations and Maintenance department, this is skilled work in a wide variety of trade tasks in the areas of electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, plumbing and general maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment and in simple construction and fabrication tasks. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM. Weekend work (Saturday and Sunday), overtime, on-call, and emergency callback is required.
Responsibilities
Maintenance - 50
Performs a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building maintenance related tasks. May assist carpenters, painters, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and electricians in their assigned duties.
Repairs - 20
Work both independently and with supervision as needed on various building related repair and installation projects in the Operations and Maintenance department.
Inventory - 15
Maintain shop areas, mechanical rooms, stock, supplies and manage waste generated from work tasks.
Compliance - 5
Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Other - 10
-Any other duties and tasks assigned or as required to meet the goals of the department, division, and Georgia College & State University.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Other Required Qualifications
Ability to operate a computer or iPad in order to receive and send email and submit work orders; Valid driver's license
Required Experience
1 to 3 years of general maintenance or preventative maintenance experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Trade school certificate in Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, or Construction related field
Proposed Salary
This position is a pay grade 5. The available salary starts at $30,828.00. Starting salary within this range is based on relevant years of experience.

ABILITIES
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Work with individuals with various backgrounds.
- Remain on task even while under no direct supervision for extended periods.
- Understand and follow safety precautions.
- Self-motivated, positive attitude and customer service orientation.
- Use electrical testing devices and voltage meters.
- Read and comprehend technical manuals and diagrams, work in confined spaces
- Operate motorized man lift, forklift, and golf cart.
KNOWLEDGE
- Good working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Tools used in these trades, such as, but not limited to testing equipment, circular, reciprocating saws, sanders, grinders, drills, pipe thread machine, sewer machine, and various hand tools and wrenches.
- Knowledge and experience in multiple areas of general maintenance, demonstrated ability and willingness to follow oral and written instructions.
SKILLS
- A person working in this classification will need to be able to grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy objects (50-75lb) objects daily.
- Able to climb (on an average of 50+feet), and work from man lifts, ladders, scaffolding and staging daily.
