Job Summary
This is a PRN/As Needed position. The SOM Skills Instructor position is integral in the training of faculty, staff, residents, students and members of the community. This person will have the required credentials of an American Heart Association Instructor (AHA) as well as clinical experience in their respective field.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Follow the direction of the AHA Training Center Coordinator (TCC).
- Conduct skills practice stations in accordance with AHA and UT Tyler SMILE Center policies.
- Conduct skills testing stations in accordance with AHA policies and procedures.
- Provides constructive feedback and guidance to help students master essential competencies.
- Ensures proper use and safety procedures for medical equipment and medications.
- Maintains realistic simulation scenarios to replicate real-world emergencies.
- Integrates legal and ethical considerations into medical decision-making training.
Required Education/Experience
- High school degree or equivalent required.
- One (1) year experience with simulation and scenario-based learning.
Required Certifications / Licenses
- Current AHA instructor in BLS (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals).
- Current AHA instructor in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
- Current AHA instructor in PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
- Will consider a combination of AHA Instructor certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
