Position Description
Employees in this classification are responsible for providing social services to patients and their families by assisting them with personal and environmental difficulties which predispose illness or interfere with obtaining maximum benefits from medical care. Persons in this position work closely with physicians and nursing staff to further their understanding of significant social and emotional factors underlying patients' health problems. They also serve as a resource referral service in advising patients and their families about available community resources.

Major/Essential Functions
- Functions as a Behavioral Health Specialist, ensuring consult lines are answered within needed timeframes and ensures that psychiatric consults occur within needed timeframes
- Identifies and facilitates coordination with an appropriate mental health professional (e.g., therapists, child/adolescent/reproductive psychiatrists) based on the level of care needed (e.g., medication management, therapy recommendations, available resources, etc.).
- Offers guidance to providers on assessing the mental and behavioral health status and needs of patients.
- Offers information and resources to providers as needed for children, adolescents, and their parents/caregivers including skill-based interventions (e.g., emotion regulation skills, behavioral parenting skills, distress tolerance skills, etc.).
- Assists the provider in developing a behavioral plan based on information provided through the consult to CPAN-PeriPAN.

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of behavioral health services that are available within Texas
- 2+ years of work experience in behavioral healthcare, within the child, adolescent and/or perinatal population

Education:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from an accredited program by the Council on Social Work Education.
License/Certification:
Licensed or eligible for license as a Social Worker by the Council on Social Work Education.
