Specialist Data Warehouse Developer
About This Opportunity
This is a unique permanent opportunity to join UQ’s Planning and Business Intelligence team as a Specialist Data Warehouse Developer, where you will develop efficient systems and collections of data to support a range of new development initiatives and meet the information reporting needs of key PBI stakeholders within the University.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Liaise with senior management, PBI and users in relation to system requirements and provide advice and support services.
- Develop specialist knowledge in assigned data collections and provide Subject Matter Expertise and advice to support the relevant business units.
- Analyse, design, develop, implement and support systems for the data warehouse.
- Under direction from the Specialist Engineer, Datawarehouse, undertake and manage projects as determined by the Specialist Engineer, Datawarehouse.
- Evaluate and report on the efficiency of the data warehouse and other systems and to recommend improvements or alternative strategies.
- Demonstrate the data warehouse and other PBI systems to individuals and groups within the University community and externally.
- Support and assist the Business Intelligence Team, in the day-to-day management and operation of the University data warehouse.
- Mentor, where appropriate, other members of the Developer development team.

About Planning and Business Intelligence
The University operates in an increasingly complex internal and external environment. PBI sits at the centre of the University’s strategic planning and student load planning activities and provides university wide business intelligence systems and support covering all of the key corporate data sources. The department is a key resource to the senior management of the University, providing data, analysis and insights to measure institutional performance and support strategic decision making.
PBI is headed by the Director, Planning & Business Intelligence and is structured into three sections: Strategic Planning, Analysis & Reporting, Load Planning & Program Development, and Business Intelligence.

About You
- A Postgraduate qualification or progression towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
- Extensive experience with and thorough understanding of the operational aspects of developing and maintaining a complex, data warehouse and business intelligence infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience in developing collections of data from disparate sources using SQL to support an enterprise wide business intelligence reporting system that provides reports for operational, performance monitoring and analytical purposes.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and investigate issues, developing solutions using high-level analytical skills to compile complex data collections.
- Thorough working knowledge of the business intelligence environment and current directions of the industry, particularly in relation to the higher education sector.
- Demonstrated experience working independently on all stages of the software development life cycle to produce innovative and practical solutions.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate with staff at all levels, both internally and externally.
- A proven ability to work autonomously, including a demonstrated capacity to establish personal work priorities to deliver on project objectives.
- A proactive approach to developing new knowledge and skills especially in a changing technical environment.
Desirable
- In-depth knowledge of SQL Server & Microsoft .Net technologies.
- Experience working with Finance and/or Human Resources datasets.
