The Opportunity:

The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University (WSU) invites you to apply for a pediatric-focused Speech-Language Pathologist to serve in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences.

As the incumbent, you will hold a 12-month annual, full-time, fixed-term career track appointment with an academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor commensurate with qualifications. The Speech-Language Pathologist position is located at the WSU Health Sciences campus in Spokane, WA. You will have an initial one (1) year contract, subject to annual extension. Renewal is subject to satisfactory performance and mutual consent.

The Speech Language Pathologist position is within the College of Medicine in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences and reports to the Speech and Hearing Sciences Department Chair.

Duties and Responsibilities:

70% Clinical:

  • Graduate Student Supervision:
    • Clinical supervision of graduate students serving applicable population.
    • Direct supervision of client-clinician therapy sessions.
    • Scheduling and conducting weekly meetings with student clinicians.
    • Reviewing and providing feedback on lesson plans and clinical documentation.
    • Approving and signing weekly student clock hours.
    • Completing semester wrap-up tasks (e.g., verify clock hours, complete final clinical evaluations, finalize clinical reports).
    • Clinical instructors are required to be on site while assigned clinical sessions are in progress.
  • Client Care:
    • Manage an independent caseload serving applicable population.
    • Assessment and treatment of clients.
    • Complete documentation for billing purposes.
    • Conduct follow-up and related services.
    • Collaborate with other service providers.

25% Didactic Teaching:

  • Teaching graduate or undergraduate didactic courses in areas of specialty.
  • Directing or serving on masters student's final project committees.

5% Service:

  • Perform other duties for Range Community Clinic and/or Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences as needed

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), fixed term career track position. This position is overtime exempt.

Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end after a 1-year contract. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

Annual Salary: Assistant Rank: $80,000 - $95,000 | Commensurate with qualifications Associate Rank: $90,000- $105,000 | Commensurate with qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications for All Ranks:

  • Earned M.S., M.A., Clinical Doctorate, or PhD in speech-language pathology or closely related field.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and either holding or being eligible for Washington State licensure.
  • Demonstrated desire to teach and supervise graduate students in their clinical training at the university level.
  • Ability to teach didactic coursework in areas of specialty.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering access and opportunity for clientele and ability to teach and mentor students effectively and positively in a diverse work environment.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice methodologies.

Additional Required Qualifications for Candidates at Associate rank:

  • Current or previous appointment at the Associate rank or equivalent at a post-secondary institution; OR experience determined to be equivalent.
  • Record of accomplishments applicable to the sub-track in teaching, research, clinical, scholarship and/or service activities commensurate with school, college, and university standards for associate rank.

Preferred Qualifications for All Ranks:

  • Three years (3) years' experience post-master's degree, providing speech-language assessment and treatment services to pediatric populations in the categories of articulation, language, voice, fluency, social aspects, and communication modalities in a school or private practice setting.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, counseling, oral and written communication, and collaboration skills; willingness to learn clinic-specific software systems and procedures.
  • Experience with supervising students in their clinical training.
