Involves the facilitation and nurturing of personal religious rituals and spiritual practices for patients, their families, staff, faculty, allied health students (as applicable), and other health care team members. Provides spiritual care and emotional support, including exploration of issues that are of meaning and value and / or issues causing moral or spiritual distress to patients, their families, staff, and others. Serves as a bridge to patient's spiritual or religious community or congregation and to appropriate clergy or religious / spiritual leaders. Offers education and fosters conversation and clarification on cultural, ethical, religious, and other topics / dynamics that can affect patient care, family interactions, and staff performance.
Experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems / issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.
Under general supervision, the Chaplain provides direct spiritual care, crisis and emotional support to patients, their families, interdisciplinary team members and allied health learners, supporting primarily the inpatient population at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital-Oakland. The Chaplain will collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support individualized goals of care and will be part of a team of spiritual care providers fostering spiritual and existential wellbeing. As an experienced spiritual care specialist, the Chaplain offers education and fosters conversation and clarification on cultural, ethical, religious, and other topics/dynamics that can affect patient care, family interactions, and interdisciplinary team and allied health student performance/resiliency. They will assist in developing and maintaining community relations and coordination of community spiritual leaders to meet patient needs via telehealth or in person visits. This position is 20 hours per week and provides clinical care on Saturdays and Sundays onsite (daytime), plus one additional half-day onsite during the week. This chaplain will receive mentoring from the site Lead Chaplain and will work collaboratively with a team of spiritual care providers
The salary range for this position is $63,700 - $136,100 (Annual Rate).
