Assistant Chaplain, Liturgy (12-month position)
Role Summary
The Assistant Chaplain for Liturgy supports campus worship and student liturgical formation as a member of the Liturgy Team. This role coordinates recruitment, training, scheduling, and communication for student liturgical ministers; advances outreach and pastoral support for Latinx students; supports marriage preparation and wedding liturgy coordination; and assists with occasional retreats and general chaplaincy responsibilities. Reports to the Associate Director.
Key Responsibilities
Liturgy & Student Minister Formation
- Participate in weekly Liturgy Team planning and preparation.
- Co-lead a 4-session formation program for new liturgical ministers; meet briefly with prospective ministers.
- Train and support ministry groups (e.g., Communion ministers, greeters)
- Provide Sunday Mass sacristy presence (11:30am and 7:00pm); monitor schedules and attendance.
- Supervise liturgy interns.
- Prepare liturgy communications and materials (weekly email, posters/web updates, Universal Prayer, worship materials).
- Support Holy Days and major campus liturgies, including rehearsals, processions, and coordination with facilities; serve as MC as needed.
Latinx Ministry & Outreach
- Incorporate Latinx traditions and feast days into liturgy and chapel programming.
- Serve as liaison to Latinx student organizations and the Latinx faculty/staff affinity group.
- Provide pastoral care for Spanish-speaking students and support an inclusive, welcoming community.
Marriage Preparation & Wedding Coordination
- Train and schedule student wedding liturgical coordinators; serve on-site when needed.
- Partner with Marriage Preparation Coordinator on wedding calendar and special circumstances/communications.
Retreat Ministry (2-3 weekend overnights/year)
- Recruit and form retreat teams; support promotion and participant recruitment.
General Chaplaincy
- Serve as class chaplain
- Meet with students for pastoral and spiritual conversation.
- Attend hospitality events
- Co-lead Montserrat evenings
- Facilitate a Cura Community
- Participate in Faculty Assembly and Administrative Faculty meetings
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in theology or pastoral ministry (M.Div. preferred).
- Fluency in Spanish is desirable.
- Experience supporting students traditionally underrepresented on college campuses.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Familiarity with Ignatian spirituality preferred; willingness to learn required.
- Strong public speaking and communication skills.

- Availability to work Sundays, one evening per week, and occasional weekends.
Salary: The Assistant Chaplain-Liturgy salary range is $64,000-$67,500 commensurate with experience.
Weekly Hours: 40
